Nous commencerons par une analyse historique o\u00f9 les Grecs ont observ\u00e9 les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e9lectriques en frottant de l&#8217;ambre avec de la laine, conduisant \u00e0 la loi des signes pour mod\u00e9liser l&#8217;attraction et la r\u00e9pulsion \u00e9lectriques. \u00c0 l&#8217;\u00e9chelle microscopique, nous explorerons les particules subatomiques et comment la charge \u00e9lectrique est inh\u00e9rente \u00e0 la structure de la mati\u00e8re, avec une attention particuli\u00e8re \u00e0 la composition des atomes et \u00e0 leur r\u00f4le dans la d\u00e9termination des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e9lectriques de la mati\u00e8re. Tout comme la masse est responsable de la gravit\u00e9, la <strong>charge \u00e9lectrique<\/strong> est la cause des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes \u00e9lectriques.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsque nous commen\u00e7ons notre \u00e9tude de l&#8217;\u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tisme, il est difficile de d\u00e9finir exactement ce qu&#8217;est la charge \u00e9lectrique. Cette compr\u00e9hension n\u00e9cessite une analyse plus avanc\u00e9e que celle que nous aborderons initialement. En fait, le mot \u00ab\u00e9lectricit\u00e9\u00bb provient du grec \u00ab\u03ae\u03bb\u03b5\u03ba\u03c4\u03c1\u03bf\u03bd (\u00e9lektron)\u00bb, qui signifie \u00abambre\u00bb. Depuis l&#8217;Antiquit\u00e9, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 observ\u00e9 que les corps \u00ab\u00e9lectriquement charg\u00e9s\u00bb poss\u00e9daient les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s et comportements suivants :<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Si deux mat\u00e9riaux A et B initialement neutres (sans charge) sont frott\u00e9s l&#8217;un contre l&#8217;autre, ils peuvent acqu\u00e9rir une charge \u00e9lectrique. Ces charges sur A et B sont de m\u00eame magnitude.<\/li>\n<li>Si, apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9s comme d\u00e9crit ci-dessus, les corps A et B sont mis en contact, leurs charges se neutralisent mutuellement.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Sur la base de ce qui pr\u00e9c\u00e8de, on dit que les corps acqui\u00e8rent des charges \u00e9gales mais oppos\u00e9es. C&#8217;est pourquoi nous d\u00e9signons ces charges comme \u00abpositives\u00bb et \u00abn\u00e9gatives\u00bb. Plus de 99,9 % de la masse d&#8217;un atome est concentr\u00e9e dans son noyau.<\/p>\n<p>Le nombre de protons dans le noyau d\u00e9finit l&#8217;\u00e9l\u00e9ment auquel appartient un atome. Le nombre de neutrons d\u00e9finit l&#8217;isotope de cet \u00e9l\u00e9ment, et le nombre d&#8217;\u00e9lectrons indique son \u00e9tat d&#8217;ionisation. Traditionnellement, un atome est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme neutre et, en cas d&#8217;exc\u00e8s ou de manque d&#8217;\u00e9lectrons, il est appel\u00e9 ion. Bien qu&#8217;un atome neutre puisse sembler d\u00e9pourvu de charge, cela ne signifie pas qu&#8217;il ne peut pas participer \u00e0 des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes \u00e9lectriques.
